The challenge: revitalising a restaurant space
Our task was to bring to life a large area left unused in a prominent place at the entrance to the Brückencenter in Remscheid.
|

Kerstin Heyroth: 'The height of the space on the first floor was a particular challenge. It called for a design that is effective from afar, yet ensures high quality accommodation on-site.'

The design: a picnic in a bamboo grove
The allure exuded by the Asian bistro, ‘binh minh’ can be seen from afar. Its attractions include a city vista – and an unexpected view of the countryside.
Whilst the powerful copper colours of the counter and upholstery echo the lively comings and goings at ground floor-level, a cathedral of green awaits the visitor on the first floor. Against the peaceful backdrop of a bamboo grove, guests can enjoy the specialities of the house. Only the colourful upholstery of the restrained white furniture is reminiscent of the colourful fireworks on the ground floor.
As evening falls, delicate rattan lamps bathe the 7.50 metres-high space in a soft light. At night, passers-by are met with a glowing cube recalling the restaurant’s name, ‘binh minh’ (Vietnamese for dawn).
