The challenge: creating a Far Eastern atmosphere

Hinting at the magic of the Far East without slavish copying, that was our aim in designing this project.

The design: natural clarity

'Simply Asian' is the slogan of the bok restaurant chain. Our design for the restaurant at City-Point in Nuremberg is also characterised by a pleasant simplicity. We used a clarified horizontal layout throughout the space.

A bench running around the unit in an earthy brown colour – based on the bok logo – is continued at eye level with a band of mirrors which lends the space the appearance of greater width. Customers' eyes are drawn to the airy blue shade of the wall above the string of mirrors.

Hanging lamps and wall lights in ceramic foam emit a gentle light. The main focus of the space is, however, the back-lit bar wall with its printed bamboo patterns. The delicate leafy design provides a pleasant contrast to the more austere lines of the dining area.

Kerstin Heyroth: 'Far Eastern architecture is characterised by a wonderful minimalism from which we took inspiration in our design.'
