| The challenge:
providing a comfortable living space within a historic setting |
| The atmosphere of an old building combined with all the
mod cons of a new build. That is what our client had in mind when she
commissioned us to undertake the conversion and renovation of her Art Nouveau
apartment.

| |
| The design: sensitive restoration |
| With great care we removed the traces of
earlier, inappropriate renovations from the Art Nouveau stucco work, ensuring
that the finely patterned glass inlays were restored on the basis of an original
source. Knocking through between living and dining rooms achieved the desired
effect of spaciousness. By closing off one of the doors to the bedroom, a
private sanctuary was created at the end of the hallway. |
| We combined the toilet and the bathroom.
With custom-made fittings, a pleasant bathroom was created which meets today’s
rigorous standards. We converted the former store cupboard into a toilet for
guests. |

| Kerstin Heyroth:
'Renovating old buildings is a balancing act. One insensitive move and the
building loses its character and soul.' |
